Conditions

Not sure exactly what you have?

Pain rarely has one simple name. "Back pain" can involve many structures (disc, joints, muscles, nerves), and understanding which ones are involved helps me treat you better. During your first visit, I assess thoroughly to understand your specific situation. The name doesn't matter as much as understanding what's driving your pain.

Some conditions present as pain in a specific area. Others cause symptoms that radiate across regions (like arm pain from your neck). Some present as tingling or numbness rather than pain. I've organized this list to help you find your situation quickly—but if you're unsure, that's completely normal. We'll figure it out together at your first visit.

GROUP 1: LOCALIZED PAIN BY REGION

  • Lumbar strain/sprain, mechanical non-specific low back pain, sacroiliac joint dysfunction, gluteus minimus/medius tendinopathy, acute lower back muscle spasms

Note: If you have pain radiating down your leg with numbness or tingling, see "Radiating Pain & Sciatica"

  • Cervical strain/sprain, mechanical non-specific neck pain, whiplash-associated disorder (WAD), acute neck muscle spasms, cervical postural pain

Note: If you have pain radiating down your arm with numbness or tingling, see "Arm Pain & Radiculopathy"

  • Cervicogenic headaches, tension headaches, migraines (especially with neck component), headaches from postural dysfunction

  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy, shoulder sprains/strains, frozen shoulder, shoulder osteoarthritis, shoulder impingement

Note: If you have pain radiating down your arm with numbness or tingling, see "Arm Pain & Radiculopathy"

  • Thoracic strain/sprain, rib dysfunction, postural dysfunction, mid-back muscle tension and stiffness, intercostal neuralgia

  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)

Note: If you have tingling/numbness in your forearm or hand, see "Nerve Compression Syndromes"

  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome, ITB syndrome, knee osteoarthritis, meniscal issues that don’t require surgery

  • Hip osteoarthritis, labral tear not needing surgery, hip muscle strains/tendinopathies, femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAI), hip muscle tightness and tension

Note: If you have pain radiating down your leg with numbness or tingling, see "Radiating Pain & Sciatica"

  • Wrist osteoarthritis, thumb joint osteoarthritis, hand joint osteoarthritis

Note: If you have tingling/numbness in your fingers, see "Nerve Compression Syndromes"

GROUP 2: SYMPTOMS ACROSS REGIONS

  • Acute muscle spasms, chronic muscle tension, post-injury muscle guarding, muscle tension from overuse or activity

Note: These often accompany other conditions. I assess the underlying cause during your first visit.

  • Lumbar radiculopathy (disc prolapse or stenosis), sciatica, piriformis syndrome with radiating leg symptoms, sacroiliac referred pain patterns, meralgia paresthetica

This category is specifically for pain that RADIATES from lower back/buttock into the leg.

  • Cervical radiculopathy (nerve root compression from disc prolapse or stenosis), cervical nerve root irritation with radiating arm pain, shoulder pain with radiating arm symptoms, thoracic outlet syndrome

This category is specifically for pain that RADIATES from your neck or shoulder down your arm.

  • Upper Limb: Carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, ulnar nerve compression

Lower Limb: Piriformis syndrome with neurological symptoms, peroneal nerve compression

This category is specifically for tingling/numbness conditions. The nerve is being compressed or irritated.

Treatment is most effective when we combine manual therapy with your active participation—exercises, movement habits, and lifestyle improvements. I provide the hands-on treatment and give you the tools; the combination of both often brings the best results. The final outcome depends on the condition, how long you've had it, severity, and your overall health.
