Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatment including spinal and extremity adjustments.

According to American Chiropractic Association (ACA) chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, joint pain of the arms or legs, headaches, and other neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects.

The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current literature shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.

Your Visit

Consultation

Firstly, you will have a consultation with Dr. Martin Heinmets to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for Dr. Martin Heinmets to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations to determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals.

Examination

After your consultation, Dr. Martin Heinmets will perform a complete chiropractic examination. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed as well.

Imaging Studies

If you have any previous MRI, x-ray or CT scans, bring them with you. Depending on your specific condition, we may also refer you to your GP for x-rays. X-rays help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions.

Report of Findings

Once the information is collected and examinations are performed, Dr. Martin Heinmets will give you a detailed report of all findings.

After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and X-rays, Dr. Martin Heinmets will design a treatment plan, discuss recommendations and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers.

Treatment

At the conclusion of this initial appointment, you can choose to experience your first treatment. This involves specific spinal and/or extremity adjustments.

Lifestyle advice

Prior to leaving, the doctor will give you advice which may include: ice application instructions, certain activites or positions to avoid, and home exercises.
